Volunteering to serve on your condo association’s board is just that – voluntary. And while you are likely very interested in helping serve your community, you may not be the most experienced in this type of role. Condo Board Member Training and Resources

In Illinois, condo board members are not required to hold formal certifications to serve on their board. That said, it never hurts to receive some training if you want to do the job effectively. One good resource to turn to is your Chicago condo association management company for help and to ask your questions.

Other professional organizations throughout the greater Chicago area also offer dedicated courses to educate and help board members succeed in their roles. Here are two of them:

The Illinois Chapter Community Associations Institute – The organization offers education programs online and in the classroom to help board members run their associations. Courses cover topics on governing association communities, fair practices, insurance and risk management, understanding financials and more. Participants will receive a certificate upon completion. The Association of Condominium, Townhouse, and Homeowners Association (ACTHA) – The association offers webinars, conferences, courses, and access to other resources to help condo board members improve their leadership abilities while serving out their board term.
